At Eikon Transformation, our mission is your thriving as God's Image Bearer
My approach is Christ centered and Holy Spirit mediated. It is founded on the fact that our greatest happiness is experienced when God is glorified as we reflect Christ's image in our daily living. As a fellow sinner who has experienced Christ's grace, my counseling approach is collaborative.
During a session, we will spend time understanding your situation and your story. Through prayer, examining and applying scripture, we will address root causes to deal with distress. I will assign hope-generating work to strengthen your walk with Christ. We will build community supports that you find useful to increase resilience. Together, we will determine the frequency of our visits. The goal is your empowerment and thriving in Christ.
My call as a Biblical Counselor stems from an understanding of humans as Image Bearers (Genesis 1:26-28). As a Psychiatrist for 20 years, this is a vocational shift. In contrast to my psychiatry training, Scripture indicates we are spirit, in addition to body and mind. I do believe medications are sometimes necessary to alleviate suffering and improve functioning. However, medications alone, while neglecting the spirit, are not adequate for our flourishing.
I have been on my own journey of brokenness and healing. I was raised a Christian, the second youngest of five kids. My brother, just older than me, had Down Syndrome. As a sister, my brother's experience both with God and fellow humans shaped my understanding of the dignity and value of all human beings. As a young adult, I went through a period of spiritual rebellion, but God's grace pursued me through this and instilled an enduring humility regarding my own brokenness. I served as an army doctor prior to immigrating to the USA from India. I raised my 2 sons as a single parent after being widowed. I completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago and my fellowship at the University of Illinois. I initially worked as an addiction psychiatrist in rural America for 6 years and I have worked in urban community mental health ever since. These experiences shaped my understanding of our universal brokenness and paradoxically our need for healing at the hands of each other. Through all these transitions, losses, challenges and blessings, the Lord has been my Shepherd, refuge and strength. In addition, it has been human beings in community who despite their brokenness, graciously reached out to strengthen me during bleak times and rejoice with me during the happy times.
As part of your community, I am one step in your healing journey. I take this responsibility seriously and look forward to a collaborative journey with you.
